Tower Engineering supported the expansion of Lakeshore Hospital through the design of a new 26-bed inpatient addition serving a rural healthcare community.
Mechanical systems were designed to prioritize resiliency and energy performance, incorporating a 100% outdoor air system with energy recovery, a high-efficiency heat-pump chiller with waste-heat recovery for domestic hot water, and fully redundant electric boilers to ensure uninterrupted service during extreme winter conditions. A centralized DDC/BAS provides operational control and long-term energy optimization.
Designed as a LEED v4 Silver “shadow” building and supported through Efficiency Manitoba’s New Buildings Program, the facility achieves energy performance approximately 36% better than NECB 2020 requirements. This expansion enhances access to essential healthcare services in a remote community setting.
